Andrew Phillips aka Bontan is a Liverpool, UK born and raised DJ/ Producer that has become one of the biggest-ever selling artists on Beatport; voted Radio 1 Future Star, received a Best Newcomer trophy at the DJ Awards, achieved multiple Beatport #1s and has an Essential Mix and Coachella play under his belt too.
After a string of early releases, a coming together with Josh Butler resulted in ‘Call You Back’, which came out on Origins Record. It would climb the Beatport charts and provide Bontan with his second overall #1 record -- a stand out release for both artists. He swiftly followed up with his debut on Hot Creations, with his ‘First Time EP’ being premiered by Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1 and was supported by all of the heavyweight dance music publications. It went on to receive over 300 radio plays worldwide and streamed millions of times.
The First Time became Hot Creations biggest selling record of the year and made Bontan the highest selling artist on Beatport across all genres for the same period, laying the foundations for a defining year for the young artist.
Leaning more to a slight change in direction in his production with organic percussion and smooth melodies, a fresh take on Bontan's sound was born. A Radio 1 Essential Mix imminently followed and Bontan’s international touring schedule took off, exposing himself to new fans Worldwide, and scaling the heights of dance music while allowing his sound to migrate and progress into a more refined and signature Bontan sound.
After years of waiting for the perfect moment, Bontan then started his label ‘We Belong’ with the most notable record being ‘Big Khalifa’, which gained support globally and really stamped his signature sound. A slow and steady rise to notoriety has been the goal Bontan set out for himself when he started his journey as an artist. That rise has led him to global tours that reach new territories every year.
Coachella came knocking and soon after a release on one of the hottest labels around, NO ART, thrust the artist onto a trajectory that knows no bounds. 2023 has seen a Bontan resurgence and his new, organic drum-driven take on house music has spurred on well deserved praise from peers and fans alike, attracting a demand for fresh music and his selections on the dance floor.
